What’s the Best Way to Prepare for a Winter Move?

If you’re moving in the winter, it helps to be prepared for bad weather at all stages of your move, especially if you’re moving to or from a cold weather state.  Planning will be key. Here are some tips to help you survive your winter move.

If you’re moving to a wintry state from the Southeast or Southwest, purchase what you’ll need before you move. Order items like snow shovels and have them shipped to your new home. Pack snow melt, ice scrapers, and winter coats with you in the car if you’re driving. And it may be a check your car for winter driving: Be sure your tires can handle snow and ice, and that your radiator has antifreeze.

Plan for bad weather on moving days. You may not need it, but be sure you have shovels and snow melt on hand. Decide who will clean sidewalks and driveways so no one slips and falls while carrying items between the house and truck. Also make a plan for how you’ll protect floors and rugs from melting snow tracked in on movers’ shoes.
